school, it gets tough

This is one of the topics I want to hit on first. School is tough enough without battling a mental illness, and with a mental illness, it seems near impossible. Believe me I know the feeling. I remember my first day of school this year, how I was in a recovery mindset and suddenly I stepped into the classroom and everything went quickly down hill. I now know that the thing that lead to that is transitioning. Transitions of any kind (coming back from a short weekend or a long vacation) can be tough. We get so comfortable in our own little safe haven of a bubble that we forget there is a whole world to interact with outside out house, eek. You see, the real world can really make you contemplate any recovery of any kind, because a good portion of the real world doesn’t know how to treat us like regular people without saying something either offensive or down right rude. For example, when I first saw my extended family for the first time since I was in treatment, I got the all to familiar “you look healthy”. Now some people won’t see the problem with that, but for someone like me recovering from an ED it could be skewed in our head. But things related to Mental health really comes up in a school environment, and not in a. good way. Many people are way to familiar with laughing at suicide and depression jokes that we teenagers come up with and think it’s ok. But believe me, it’s so not. You never know how they will effect people around you. I am currently trying to write a lecture on how out society thinks that jokes makes everything better, and how to change the stigma of depression and suicide. Anyways, I am always here to talk. Have a great night!
